Please let me start by exchanging the word talk to communicate. When we speak to God or God speaks to us, we are constricted by the limitation of words. For this reason, God does not communicate with us by words alone. If you take the time to think about this, you also will find that we do not communicate with one another strictly by words. God's most common form of communication is through feelings. Feeling is the language of the Spirit. When you are wondering if something is true for you, look at how you are feeling about it. Our feelings are sometimes difficult to discover and often more difficult to acknowledge. Yet, hidden in our deepest feelings will be our highest truth. God will also communicate through thought. Thoughts and feelings are not the same, although they can often occur at the same time. Our thoughts may come in the form of images or pictures, and because of this, thoughts are more effective than words for God to get our attention. Sometimes we have to put our thoughts and feelings together to get the effect of what God is trying to show us, and this can be a difficult thing to do. God will also use experience. Experience is the grand communicator. We need to think about this. Through our experience we have learned our greatest lessons. Finally, when feelings, thoughts, and experience fail, God uses words. Words are probably the least effective way to communicate. They are most open to misinterpretation, and most often misunderstood. The reason for this is because words are utterance: Noises that stand for feelings, thoughts and experiences. They are symbols. They are not truth (although they can represent truth). They are not the real thing. Words may help us to understand something, but experience will allow you to know. It has occurred to me that we place so little importance on the experience. In fact, we place so little importance on experience that we will discard the experience and own the words. Remember, what your experiences and feelings tell you about something represent what you factually and intuitively know about it. Words can only seek symbols to what you know and often words can confuse you. It would be wise for us to ponder this, also. Not all thoughts, not all feelings, not all experiences and not all words are from God. Others have uttered many words in the name of God. Many thoughts and many feelings have been sponsored by causes that are not of God's direction, and therefore many experiences have resulted from this. The challenge we all face is the one of discernment. Discrimination can be made with some basic rules. God will always be your highest thought, your clearest word, and your grandest feeling. The highest thought will always bring us an inner peace; even if it is difficult. The clearest words are those words which contain truth. The grandest feeling is that which we call love. Most of God's messages we will ignore. Some may seem too good to be true, others seem too difficult to follow, and many simply because they are misunderstood, but most of the time they are not received. God's most powerful messenger is experience, and even this we will ignore. We always need to remember that God will never force you, nor will he coerce you and me. God has given us free will, the power to do as we choose, and that can never be taken away from us. The results of us not listening is we will continue to relive the same things over and over again, but the good news is that one day we will get the message. God
